Read Across America Day at G. H. Reid Elementary School
Brief Organizational Description:
Communities In Schools (CIS) of Richmond surrounds students with a network of support, empowering them to stay in school and succeed in life. We work inside schools to connect students with caring adults and critical resources, helping to remove barriers to their success.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Join us in celebrating Read Across America Day by sharing the joy of reading with students at G. H. Reid Elementary! Community volunteers will read grade-level appropriate books in K-5 classrooms throughout the morning.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
- Select and read from an assortment of provided books in K-5 classrooms
- Engage students and bring stories to life through enthusiastic reading.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
- Comfortable standing or sitting for a period of time.
- Enthusiasm for reading and engaging with young students.
Time Commitment:
Three hour committment on Thursday, March 6th, from 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Other Information (if applicable):
- Parking: Available in the school parking lot.
- Check-In: Volunteers should go straight to the main office upon arrival with a photo ID to sign in and receive a visitor badge.
- Book Selection: Volunteers will be guided to the library to pick out a book before reading.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+, Court Ordered Volunteer - Allowed
