Swan Lake sidewalk erosion project
Brief Organizational Description:
The mission of Friends of Byrd Park is to preserve and enhance the natural, historic, and recreational resources of Byrd Park by partnering with the community and City through advocacy, stewardship, and volunteerism.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Assist the Friends of Byrd Park and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities as we improve the safety of a stroll along Swan Lake by raising the soil level to grade with the sidewalk.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers are needed to fill eroded areas along the newly laid sidewalks on the eastern side of Swan Lake with new topsoil, hand spread grass seed, cover with straw, water in.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No special skills are needed, just a willingness to use your muscles to move soil.
Time Commitment:
9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Other Information (if applicable):
- Parks staff will be in attendance to guide us with the project.
- Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
- We will be working on the east side of Swan Lake. You can park in the lot adjacent to Shields Lake or along the street.
- Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
