Maymont's Summer Kick-Off Festival

Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park, located in Richmond, Virginia, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy, including the historic Maymont Mansion, The Robins Nature Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. With seasonal events, programs and rental spaces, over 800,000 guests enjoy Maymont yearly. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating experiences that delight, educate and inspire its guests.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

Kick off Richmond’s outdoor music season with a weekend of hometown favorites at Maymont! The Summer Kickoff Festival, June 7-8, is the perfect excuse to round up some friends, grab some portable chairs or picnic blankets, and check out the breadth of Richmond’s eclectic music scene. Friday evening features Full Moon Fever, a Tom Petty tribute band, and a set by Richmond’s favorite yacht rockers, Three Sheets to the Wind.

Five groups take the CoStar Group Builds stage on Saturday starting at 1 pm: Leading off is Fiesta del Sol, a Latin dance performance by Latin Ballet of Virginia; followed by a progressive soul set by Shera Shi; then Weekend Plans play a unique blend of funk, hip hop and jazz; followed by the pioneers of indie-salsa revival, Bio Ritmo; and the night ends with a set of neo-traditional blues fusion by Justin Golden and the Devil’s Coattails.

Between sets, guests can enjoy a craft beer or cider, wine and a diverse line-up of local food vendors.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

Volunteers support check-in, helping direct guests & manage lines. Bar volunteers will pour beer & wine (ages 21+). Volunteers can also lend a hand at the Community Fun-Zone (activity tent) and Richmond Represents Tent and Stage (Saturday) for guests to participate in interactive performances, engage with performance- and culture-focused organizations, and more! They will also help guests learn a new dance step, make crafts and create, and splash around at the Goldfish Swim School water play station.

Volunteers may enjoy the concert for free before or after their shift. This event is rain or shine.

Other Information (if applicable):

Please park near the Hampton St. Gate - 1700 Hampton Street. Volunteer Check-In will be inside the gates.

Maymont’s grounds and gardens close at 4pm on Friday; admission Friday night and on Saturday is for festival ticket holders only.
