  • Stay organized and know the deadlines for the scholarships you are applying for.

  • Think about what makes you unique and search for scholarships that match your interests and hobbies.

  • Talk to your guidance counselor about other scholarships opportunities that may be available.

  • Search locally for other scholarships offered through banks, schools, churches, clubs, and businesses.

  • Take your time when writing required essays or personal statements.  You may consider asking a friend or teacher to read your essay and application for any mistakes or things you may have missed.

  • Request letters of recommendation early and ask the people who know you best (teachers, coaches, mentors, or employers)

  • Apply for as many scholarships as possible, but ensure you meet the eligibility criteria first.

  • Follow all instructions carefully and make sure you are submitting all of the required parts (including letters of recommendation, transcripts, financial forms, activity forms and resumes).

  • However, DO ask a friend or teacher to read your essay and application for any mistakes or things you may have missed.

  • Follow all instructions carefully and make sure you are submitting all of the required parts (including: letters of recommendation, transcripts, financial forms, activity forms and resumes).
