Food Access Volunteer Opportunities in greater Richmond

In November, the federal government shutdown will impact the distribution of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which help tens of thousands of people in the greater Richmond region put food on the table.

In response to growing food insecurity across the Richmond region, the Governor has declared a state of emergency to release state funds and help cover costs related to SNAP benefits, and launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) Initiative. To meet the rising need, the City of Richmond has partnered with Feed More to establish food distribution sites, serving more than 110,000 SNAP recipients in Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover.

While these solutions can help fill the gaps, ensuring our neighbors have the resources they need in this time requires the support of the entire community. There are many ways you can get involved! Whether you have time to volunteer, can host a food drive, or want to donate supplies, your support helps ensure that nutritious food reaches the people who need it most.
