May Garden Maintenance in the LowLine Gardens

 

Brief Organizational Description: 
Capital Trees is working to create a greener, more liveable Richmond through the thoughtful planning, planting, and maintenance of public green places

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
90% of the maintenance for the LowLine Gardens is performed by volunteers.  Without this community support the gardens would not exist for the hundreds of people who enjoy them year around.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers wil assist with weeding the established gardens.  All tools provided, though if you have a favorite you are welcome to bring it.

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No specific training is needed.  We will provide instruction.

Time Commitment:
The opportunity lasts from 8 a.m. until noon each Wednesday.  Volunteers are welcome to arrive any time before 11a.m. and work whatever time suits their schedule

Other Information (if applicable):

  • We provide a sign in sheet to track volunteer hours
  • Orientation and training is provided on your first visit.
  • Recommend wearing long pants, a sun hat and layers.  It is often cool to start, but warms up quickly.  Sturdy shoes that you do mind mind getting muddy are recommended.  No open toe or open back shoes.
  • Parking is available in Great Ship Lock Park.  If the lot is full, free parking is available on Dock Street beyone the roundabout heading East.  A ten minute walk from this location back to Great Ship Lock Park along the Capital Trail.
  • Bring plenty of water.  No potable water on site.  The only lavatory is a Port A Potty.
