2025 McKinney-Vento (Express Airport Inn)
Brief Organizational Description:
McKinney-Vento is the federal legislation intended to break down barriers to enrollment, allow for full school participation and provide supports for academic success for students who are experiencing unstable housing. We make sure that students are allowed to remain enrolled in their Henrico County school no matter where they are laying their heads at night.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
The McKinney-Vento Team at Henrico County Public Schools is preparing for our upcoming summer pop-up engagement/enrollment events. The primary objective of these events is to establish connections with families residing in hotels throughout Henrico County, ensuring they have the necessary resources for a smooth return to school in the fall. While our planning efforts have been substantial, we are currently seeking volunteers to assist on the day of these events.
Below, you will find a schedule of dates and locations for our upcoming events, allowing you to mark your calendars accordingly. If you or members of your organization are interested in participating in one or more of these events, we encourage you to sign up promptly. Our aim is to guarantee that all students, regardless of their living situation, have the essential resources they need before the commencement of the school year.

Event Details
What we want to accomplish:
- Onsite eligibility (Determine if students are eligible for our program)
- Distribute resources (food, hygiene products, school supplies…etc.)
- Provide vendors to give families access to other community resources.
Dates and Locations:
- July 24th Express Airport Inn (5700 Williamsburg Rd Sandston, VA 23150)
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
We need volunteer support in the following areas:
- Assist with setup and break down
- Manage tables and help distribute resources,
- Food preparation and serving
- Engaging families with games, dancing, and other fun activities
- Assist with directing families towards vendor tables.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Formal training is not a prerequisite for this volunteer opportunity; however, all volunteers are required to undergo a background check before being confirmed as approved volunteers. Those interested in volunteering can express their interest, and upon completion of the background check, volunteers will be notified accordingly.
Time Commitment:
We ask that all volunteers commit at least 2 hours for any event they attend. See below the breakdown for the day.

Other Information (if applicable):
- All Volunteers will need to check-in at the “Volunteer Check-In” table. Volunteers’ attendance will be verified at the event and marked in the system afterwards. There volunteers will be directed towards their assignment for the day. Volunteers are advised to wear comfortable and cool clothing.
