Summer Reading Buddies
Help a student build confidence and a love for reading by volunteering just one hour each week. Work one-on-one with a child during our Summer Reading Buddy program, Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
Brief Organizational Description:
Our mission is to support the residents of Richmond’s East End community and educate its children, equipping them to serve as positive contributors to their family, community, and society.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:Why Reading Buddies Matter
Reading Buddies play a vital role in nurturing a love for reading during students’ lunchtime. These weekly one-on-one sessions provide consistency, helping to build students’ confidence, literacy skills, and social development in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will spend one hour per week reading to their student from a variety of provided materials.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Background checks are required and volunteers must attend a brief orientation.
Time Commitment:
One hour per week. Offered Mon-Thurs from 11:30am-12:30pm.
Other Information (if applicable):
- Hours will be tracked on our system,VolunteerMark
- Orientation will need to take place before the start date
- Please dress comfortably and appropriately
- Free parking is available on the road
- Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated
- All volunteers will undergo a background check
