Food Pantry: Inventory & Packing Support

Brief Organizational Description:

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People, Inc. (CAPUP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with over 60 years of commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals facing hardships. Our mission is to empower and uplift communities through collaborative partnerships, dedicated staff, and impactful programs designed to create positive change.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

At CAPUP, we LOVE volunteers! Volunteers mostly serve in our food pantry as they welcome new folks, pack/distribute food bags, and enter data into our respective databases. This frees up staff time to run the program and provide resource management to clients. We ask that volunteers sign up for at least 2 shifts/month in order to be approved.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pack bags with dry goods and other pantry essentials in preparation for upcoming distributions.

  • Help unload food deliveries, ensuring items are handled with care.

  • Track, sort, and organize deliveries as they arrive to ensure accurate inventory.

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized pantry space.

  • Prepare and organize bags for distribution to unhoused guests, ensuring everything is ready and packed efficiently.

  • Assist guests in carrying their bags to their cars, providing extra support if needed.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move boxes and bags (assistance available if needed).

Application Steps:

  • Sign up for a slot on CFEngage.
  • Upon signup, you will recieve TWO emails; a confirmation from CFEngage, and an email from the Opportunity Coordinator at "ahammer@capup.org". Specific meeting location and additional instructions will be sent in the SECOND email - be sure to check your SPAM folder if you have not recived it. All volunteers MUST REPLY to that email to confirm participation, to allow for proper planning.
  • Each first-time volunteer will be required to complete a background check prior to arrival. You must submit it to ahammer@capup.org and we must receive the report from the background check before your start date.

Time Commitment:

Volunteers will be expected to work for three hour shifts (for the duration of the food pantry + some prep time before and after). Your support will directly impact the well-being of our neighbors, and together, we can bring hope and comfort to those who need it most.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting this important initiative! We look forward to partnering with you to uplift our community.
