MLK Day: AgriMeals for Change

Brief Organizational Description:

Virginia Cooperative Extension at Virginia State University (VSU) is partnering with The Outreach Program to host “AgriMeals for Change,” a volunteer event on Monday, January 19, 2026, to prepare 50,000 boxed meals that will go to local food pantries. VSU is seeking 200 volunteers for this Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event at the campus’s multi-purpose center to help address local food insecurity.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

The event brings together community members, organizations, and volunteers to
support food security by packaging and distributing nutritious meals to individuals
and families in need. With a volunteer base of 200 people, the purpose of the event
expands beyond meal preparation, serving as a powerful community-building,
educational, and service-driven initiative.

In addition, the AgriMeal for Change event is to help reduce hunger by producing
large quantities of healthy, shelf-stable meals. With 200 volunteers, the event can
package thousands of meals in a short period of time, making a meaningful impact
on local food banks, shelters, and families experiencing food shortages.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

The AgriMeal for Change Packaging Event unites community members, organizations, and volunteers to support food security by packaging and distributing nutritious, shelf-stable meals for individuals and families in need. With a dedicated team of 200 volunteers, this event goes beyond meal preparation—it fosters community building, provides hands-on education, and strengthens service-oriented partnerships.
