Earth Week: James River Park System
Please join us for the James River Park System's Earth Week - a week full of events that focus on cleaning and beautifying the Park System in honor of Earth Day.
Connect with The James River Park System as we tackle garden bed plantings, trash cleanups, and removing invasive plants to help The James River Park’s natural habitat. We will be using provided tools such as hand shovels and trash grabbers to plant native gardens and remove trash from the park. Hazards include (not limited to) poison ivy, briars, thorns, insects, and broken glass. Please dress comfortably as we will be outside for most of the projects. Regardless of the weather, we strongly recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes to protect yourself from plants such as briars and poison ivy. Depending on the event, volunteers must bring their water. If you do not bring water for yourself, you may not be able to participate.
Tools and gloves will be provided by JRPS. Please feel free to bring your favorite tool from home and a pair of gloves that you already own. We look forward to working with you! In the event of storms or heavy rain, this event will be canceled.
Please check individual occurrence listings for the time and location of a specific event. Please arrive by the listed start time so that you can receive your orientation, and tools, and walk with the group to the work site. If you arrive late, you may not be able to find the group or receive credit for any volunteer time. Please note: many of our locations do not have bathroom facilities.
Unless otherwise noted, all Earth Week volunteer events are restricted to ages 16+. This is for the safety of all participants as well as for the best interest of the sensitive environments we are working in. Youths under 18 must have a parent or guardian complete the youth waiver: Youth Waiver Form. It can be emailed in advance to programs@jamesriverpark.org or printed and brought to the event. This applies whether or not youth are accompanied by an adult.
