Featured DIY - SOUPer Hero Snack Kits for Connor's Heroes

DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in community service from the comfort of their own homes. Volunteers purchase supplies and complete the kits in their own space then drop off completed projects at the designated days/times below.

SOUPer Hero Snack Kits for Connor's Heroes
Beneficiary:
Connor's Heroes

Purpose: Founded in 2006 as a salute to Connor Goodwin, who triumphed after 2-1/2 years of cancer treatment as a preschooler, Connor's Heroes is named after Connor and in honor of the heroes who supported his family throughout his treatment. Today, Connor's Heroes is a Richmond, Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to helping families in Central Virginia cope with childhood cancer and our community's researchers conquer it. Connor's Heroes currently serves over 120 cancer heroes in active treatment who are diagnosed or treated at Children's Hospital of Richmond.

These SOUPer Hero snack kits will provide comfort and nourishment to families experiencing an inpatient stay at the hospital.  These kits will be available in the Connor's Heroes Family Room, located on the 12th floor at CHoR.  It is estimated that two out of five families experience food insecurity during a hospital stay. We are grateful for your support to ensure that caregivers have access to food to fully engage in their child's care.

We ask each volunteer to prepare 3 SOUPer Hero Snack Kits with an encouraging note.

How To:

1. Sign up for the project below. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must sign up. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.

3. DIY! We ask that each participant put together at least 3 SOUPer Hero kits. There is no maximum contribution for this project, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project. Please sign up for only one drop-off date.

4. Bring your completed DIY to the drop-off location on the date and within the timeframe you sign up for.  No DIY form or youth waiver is needed.
