Habitat Restoration / Invasive Plant Removal
Brief Organizational Description:
Reedy Creek Coalition works in Crooked Branch Ravine Park removing invasive plant species that complete with our native plant species. This will help improve water quality, moderate temperatures, improve soil quality and provide appropriate food and shelter for wildlife.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Volunteers work together to clear specific areas of English ivy and other invasive plants. Many hands will help clear areas more quickly.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties: Removing invasive plants. Responsibilities: Remove the plants identified for that work day and ask for assistance with plant identification if needed. Adhere to safety guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No experience is needed. Each workday begins with examples of the plant to be removed, best ways to do the work, and basic safety information. Volunteers who remove ivy from trees will need to work with an experienced person before working on their own.

2 hours

- Attendance will be entered at CFEngage
- A description of the work to be done and basic safety information is provided at the beginning of each workday.
- Dress for the weather. Long pants are recommended, unless the weather is hot. Sturdy shoes recommended, close toed shoes required. Bring your own water and snack if needed.
- Street parking is available on Northrop Street
- Please bring your own work gloves and tools if possible. Small garden tools such as a hand weeder or soil knife are needed for removing ivy and other invasive plants from the ground. Hand pruners, a small saw and a screw driver are best for removing ivy from the base of trees. Gloves and some tools will be available on site.
