PrepWorks Summer Camp Volunteer

 

Brief Organizational Description:

VOWS Foundation empowers under-resourced communities through programs that support youth education, mental wellness, family care, and workforce readiness. Our PrepWorks Summer Camp offers enriching summer experiences that help youth grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to serve as Camp Counselors at our 7-week PrepWorks Summer Camp. Volunteers will support day-to-day camp activities, serve as mentors to youth ages 6–13, and help create a safe, supportive, and fun camp environment. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to gain experience in youth programming, education, or nonprofit work while making a meaningful impact.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and engage with a group of youth throughout the camp day

  • Assist in organizing, setting up, and leading activities and games

  • Encourage camper participation and support their emotional wellbeing

  • Help manage daily transitions, mealtimes, and field trips

  • Model positive behavior, teamwork, and leadership

  • Report to the Camp Director or Lead Counselor as needed

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Enjoys working with children and teens

  • Responsible, dependable, and upbeat attitude

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team

  • Must attend a mandatory orientation session before the start of camp

Time Commitment:

  • Dates: June 23 – August 7, 2025

  • Camp Hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Volunteers can commit to a minimum of 1 days per week (flexible scheduling available)

  • Half-day and full-day shifts are available

Other Information:

  • Volunteer hours will be verified by sign-in/sign-out sheet managed by the Camp Director

  • Virtual orientation/training will take place the week before camp begins

  • Attire: Casual, comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor and indoor activities. Closed-toe shoes recommended.

  • What to Bring: Water bottle, sun protection, and a great attitude

  • Location: 400 S Addison St., Richmond, VA

  • Parking: Free street parking available
