Southside ReLeaf invites you to join us as we continue increasing accessibliity and preparing for fall planting in this beautiful new park space!
Brief Organizational Description:
Our mission is to improve health outcomes and the quality of life for Southside Richmond by building green spaces and advocating for people-centered policy.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
This phase of the project involves clearing the space so it is more easily accesible. As a volunteer, you will assist us in clearing the park space by removing invasive ground ivy (mostly English Ivy).
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be removing ground ivy by hand. Removal will include bending, squatting and/or kneeling. For anyone who finds those positions uncomfortable but is still interested in participating, we will have you perform "Free-A-Tree" work on climbing ivy, allowing you to stand.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No special skills are required to be successful in this project.
Time Commitment:
Volunteer opportunities will occur Monday through Friday, July 7 - July 11. Volunteers may sign up to attend as many time slots as desired.
Walks through the park space will occur each day from 8:30 - 9:00 am and 5:30 - 6:00 pm
Ivy removal workdays will occur each day from 9:00 - 10:00 am and 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Other Information (if applicable):
- Volunteers will be marked in the CFEngage system. If you need a signature to document attendance, please bring your form with you.
- Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather. The temperature under the canopy is significantly lower. Feel free to bring a long sleeve shirt to protect from bugs and scrapes, but it is not required.
- Parking will be in a residential neighborhood on the street. The address you may look up to get you there is 2913 Ernest Rd. Parking anywhere nearby is sufficient. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle. You are welcome to bring your own gloves. Tool and gloves will be provided.
