Featured DIY - Disaster/Emergency Preparedness Kits
DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in community service from the comfort of their own homes. Volunteers purchase supplies and complete the kits in their own space then drop off completed projects at the designated days/times below.
Disaster/Emergency Preparedness Kits
Beneficiary: Emergency Management Alliance of Central Virginia (EMACV)
Purpose:
Disasters can happen at any moment. By planning ahead, you can avoid waiting in long lines for critical supplies and will also have essential items if you need to evacuate. FEMA recommends that residents have a disaster supplies kit packed and ready in one place before disaster hits.
Volunteers will use the supply list below to put together two kits to donate and one to keep. For each kit, volunteers will print a checklist to include in the kit (see link below) and a “Family Emergency Communication Plan” (see link below). EMACV will distribute donated kits at fairs and other community events.
How To:
1. Sign up for the project by clicking the button below. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must sign up. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.
2. Review the instrustions and supply list here.
Print 3 copies of the checklist and 3 copies of the Family Emergency Communication Plan. Include one of each in your kits.
