Spreading Roots Urban Forest Walking Series in Southside Richmond
Brief Organizational Description:
The mission of Southside ReLeaf is to improve the quality of life in the Southside by greening communities and advocating with our neighbors.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Southside ReLeaf invites you to join us for our Spreading Roots Urban Walking series this September! Every Wednesday in September, enjoy morning movement in nature, learn about the current progress and future projects of a new Southside Richmond park, and feel the significant temperature relief from the day's rising temperature under the canopy. At each walk, we will provide you with an infographic about the benefits of urban greening, which is part of the free Spreading Roots toolkit.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Join Southside ReLeaf for weekly Wednesday morning walks under the canopy of an urban forest.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Be advised that we may encounter tall[ish] grasses and plants.
Time Commitment:
9:00 am - 10:00 am
Stay for as little or as long as you would like.
Other Information (if applicable):
- Volunteers will be marked in the CFEngage system. If you need a signature to document attendance, please bring your form with you.
- Please wear shoes appropriate for navigating uneven terrain and potential mud. Dress for the weather. Long pants are recommended to protect against tall grasses and insects, but they are not required.
- This address will get you closest to the park walking access path. Ideally, park by the median of the Beaufont Court loop or along Lamar Dr. and walk over. Please do not park directly at the dead end of the road. That area will be reserved for Parks and Recreation vehicles.
- You are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.
