City of Richmond’s MLK Day of Service Community Cleanups

The City of Richmond’s Office of Neighborhood Engagement is excited to host Community Cleanups at five locations across the city in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service!

We’re looking for 15–25 volunteers at each site to join neighbors in making a positive impact. This is a family-friendly event, and children are welcome as long as an adult accompanies them.

We’ll provide trash grabbers, bags, and safety vests. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves just in case we run low. Be sure to dress warmly and come ready to make a meaningful difference in our communities!

Together, we can help Richmond shine, grow, and thriveone cleanup at a time!

  • Date: January 19th,2026 
  • Time: 11:30 am-1:30 pm (may finish early)
  • Location: Carillon, Mosby Apartments, Historic Jackson Ward, Blackwell, North Barton Heights

Volunteer Position Description & Purpose:

Volunteers will support the City of Richmond’s MLK Day of Service Community Cleanups by helping remove litter, debris, and unwanted items from designated neighborhoods. This role strengthens community pride, promotes cleaner and safer public spaces, and helps Richmond continue to grow and thrive. Volunteers will work alongside residents, city staff, and fellow community members to honor Dr. King’s legacy through hands-on service.


Other Information (if applicable):

  • Recommended attire: Please bundle up for the weather and wear comfortable outdoor clothing. Closed-toe shoes required. 
  • Parking information: Parking options vary by location. Details will be shared in your confirmation email.
  • Anything volunteers need to bring: We encourage volunteers to bring their own gloves, as our supply may be limited.
  • Special instructions, etc.: All children must be accompanied by an adult. Arrive a few minutes early to check in and receive your cleanup supplies.
