Blackwell Park Litter Pickup & Beautification
Southside ReLeaf invites you to join us in a litter pickup event as we show some love to the newly upgraded Blackwell Park and the surrounding area!
Brief Organizational Description:
Our mission is to improve health outcomes and the quality of life for Southside Richmond by building green spaces and advocating for people-centered policy.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Volunteers will collect litter from the park property, nearby streets, and other areas to maintain the newly installed permeable parking lot, walking trail, bioretention area, nature-inspired playground, and green spaces, where nearly 90 trees were planted this past fall. The goal is to beautify and care for the area near the park.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Walk or navigate the park space. Use trash-grabbing tools to collect litter and debris on the park property and on neighboring streets, placing them in bags. For those interested, we can get into the adjacent wooded areas and see what we can haul out!
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Moderate hand strength for trash grabber use. Trash bags can get up to 55 lbs. For those interested, removal may include descending declines.
A willingness to show some love to this green space is all that is required.
If you have any obstacle to performing the trash cleanup that we cannot accommodate, we invite you to simply enjoy being in the space with us!

Friday, February 13, 2026 10a - 12p (2 hours)
Other Information (if applicable):
- Volunteer attendance will be tracked in the CFengage system. If you need a signature to document attendance, please bring your form.
- Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
- Parking is available in the new permeable parking lot. You may also park on Maury Street and in the adjacent neighborhood if the lot is full.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle. You are welcome to bring your own gloves, but we will provide a pair to everyone.
