Friends of Bandy Field May Workday

The Friends of Bandy Field Nature Park strive to transform, restore, and protect Bandy Field Nature Park to enhance the nature experience of park visitors.

Join us on Saturday, May 9th from 9am to 12 noon to battle invasives.

Volunteers will continue several ongoing projects including pulling up aggresive vines (especially English Ivy)  and hauling wood chips to smother winter creeper and porcelain berry.

Since we started using the woodchips, we’ve seen a significant reduction in the invasives appearing on the forest floor. We’ve also observed native woodland perennials appearing, including Eurybia divaricata (White Wood Aster), Houstonia caerulea (Common Bluets), Mitchella repens (Partridge-berry), and Viola (Violets).

Meet at the main entrance to the park located at the intersection of Three Chopt Rd. and Hanover Ave. at 9 am to register and sign a waiver form.

Ample parking is available across Three Chopt on Hanover and Ripley Avenues.

Please wear loose clothing that covers your arms and legs, a hat, and sturdy closed toe shoes. The terrain in this area of the park is uneven.

All tools will be provided on site but we ask that you bring a water bottle and your own work gloves.

Refills for your water bottle & snacks will be available at the registration table.
