August Idealist Day - Reedy Creek Wetland litter pickup
This August, Southside ReLeaf is proud to participate in Idealist Days — a global movement that brings people together to take positive action in their communities through service, connection, and local impact. Join us as we continue caring for the Reedy Creek Wetland park, a beautiful loop path park in the Beaufont neighborhood. This volunteer opportunity focuses on litter cleanup in the park, from the wetland and creek to help create a cleaner, healthier environment for residents and visitors alike.
Brief Organizational Description:
Our mission is to improve health outcomes and the quality of life for Southside Richmond by building green spaces and advocating for people-centered policy.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Volunteers will help remove litter and debris at the Reedy Creek Wetland using provided tools, including trash grabbers and bags. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit and enjoy a newly established, well-canopied green space in Southside Richmond.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be walking and using trash grabbers to collect debris along the path in bags. Depending on weather prior to the event date, cleanup areas may be wet and/or muddy. We will also be focused on removing litter from Reedy Creek and the wetland space.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No special skills are required to be successful in this project.
Time Commitment:
Saturday, August 8, 2026, 8am - 10am (2 hours)

- Volunteers will be marked in the CFEngage system. If you need a signature to document attendance, please bring your form with you.
- Please wear closed-toe shoes. Long pants and boots are recommended. To get into the creek and wetland spaces, waders are ideal.
- Parking will be in a residential neighborhood on the street. Parking around the Beaufont Ct. loop is ideal. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle. You are welcome to bring your own gloves. Gloves will be provided.
- If you arrive late, please peruse the area and look for our group in the park behind 6102 Lamar.
