Henderson Middle Tree Planting
Groundwork RVA is growing the Next Generation of Urban conservationists in Richmond, VA. Together, we can build a greener, more equitable Richmond, VA.
Join us for a community tree planting at Henderson Middle School to celebrate Richmond Tree Week and Cool the City by increasing tree canopy on their campus.
Cool City is a collaborative, city-wide campaign to increase the city’s tree canopy, improve health outcomes, invest in workforce development programs and mitigate the impacts of extreme heat and weather across the City of Richmond. Funding for this project provided by the USDA Forest Service, Urban and Community Forestry Program in partnership with the City of Richmond.
Opportunity Details:
Saturday, November 7th 9am-Noon
Volunteers will plant street trees across the campus of Henderson Middle School. No experience necessary. Training will be provided by our staff and we will form groups with our apprentices and experienced volunteers.
- We will kick off at the 9:00am with a tree planting demonstration.
- Please arrive a few minutes beforehand to sign in.
- Planting holes will be pre-augered.
- Please wear closed-toe shoes.
- Dress comfortably in layers in clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
- Bring hats, sunscreen, and anything else to protect you from the elements.
- Bring a refillable water bottle. Water coolers for refills will be available on site.
- A restroom is available on site.
- Volunteer attendance will be recorded on CFengage. Groundwork RVA staff is available to sign any other documentation by request.
- Parking is available in the Henderson Middle School lot, marked with a red P on the map below.
- We will meet in the bus loop to kick off, shown below with a yellow star.
