First Fridays "Donations Pop-Up" Helpers
The Sacred Heart Center connects Latino families with tools to thrive and flourish. Our work manifests through: A continuum of educational opportunities for adults, Innovative programs for youth and children, Strategic partnerships to meet community needs.
At the Sacred Heart Center we always have free clothes, shoes, stuffed animals, and books available for our visitors…and we always accept donations, too. Once a month we have a “First Fridays Donations Pop-Up” – this is when we take many of these donated items to the Southwood Apartment Complex, located in the city of Richmond, for primarily Latino residents many of whom have limited access to transportation.
We have an immediate need for 3 to 5 people to meet at the Sacred Heart Center (1400 Perry Street) help us load our bus, transport the donations to the Southwood Apartment Complex (1101 Southwood Parkway), unload them, and help us manage the event. At the end of the event, the second shift of volunteers will help us load the leftover donations, transport them back to the Sacred Heart Center, and then unload them.
This volunteer opportunity is a fun way to get moving, help a good cause, and also be in direct contact with our community members.
- The event is the first Friday of every month.
- The shift is from 8:00 AM to 10:30 or 11 AM.
- Spanish skills are a plus, but not necessary.
- Moderate lifting (up to +/- 25 lbs) and walking is required.
- Alternately, if you want to help out but are not free Friday morning, please contact us and we can have you help us organize the donations on the Thursday before each pop-up.
