RISAW Free The Creek at Pony Pasture!
*This volunteer opportunity is part of the kick-off event for Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week*
Clear invasive plants in Pony Pasture to restore habitat and support wildlife!
Work with the JRPS and other volunteers to improve the ecological health of these important park system woodlands.
We will be manually pulling invasive vine ground cover in the Rockfalls Creek Restoration Area near the Pony Pasture entrance. Volunteers will not need to use tools. Meet by the pedestrian bridge leading to the restroom facility to the right as you enter the parking lot.
Your project leader will be Megan Lowe, Americorps member and support to the JRPS invasive plant management team. If you need to reach Megan, contact her at 804-814-9758.
- Arrive on time for orientation and training and to reach the work site.
- Dress appropriately in long-sleeves and long pants. Yoga pants, leggings, and other styles that snag are discouraged.
- Wear STURDY closed-toe shoes or boots that you don't mind getting dirty or possibly wet
- Bring a water bottle.
- Work gloves are provided.

Meeting location will be in the parking lot, either near the bridge leading to the restroom facility or near the kiosk at the rapids.
DIRECTIONS TO PONY PASTURE, 7200 Riverside Drive:
Traveling west on Forest Hill Avenue, turn right on Old Westham. Old Westham becomes Longview. Continue on Longview for about one mile until you reach the stop sign at the intersection with Rockfalls Drive. Turn right on Rockfalls. Bear left around the traffic circle at the intersection with Riverside Drive. Turn right into the Pony Pasture parking lot.
