Campus Spruce Up

Virginia Home for Boys and Girls (VHBG) is a comprehensive child and family services organization offering group care services, educational services and clinical and community based services. The project is to work on the beautification of the VHBG campus by weeding and planting, maintaining and cleaning outdoor areas, and painting inside a building, including a dedicated "alumni house." A newly formed alumni association has gotten involved with improvements on campus and this building will be used to create a space where they can get involved with the kids as mentors and be strong, caring adult contacts. These projects impact the mission by improving the conditions the kids live in. With teaching-family homes for at-risk children, keeping the environment well-maintained adds to their belief that they are worthy of good things in life.

Volunteers will:
  • Prepare areas for planting by weeding and turning soil
  • Sweep and tidy outdoor areas
  • Paint inside the alumni house
  • Move furniture and materials to prepare for work to be done
Please wear old clothes that can get dirty. Park in front of or behind the Administration building, the first building on the right as you enter the campus. The entrance from Broad Street is a bit hidden, so look out for it. This project will still occur if it rains. The tasks will differ somewhat from the original list.
All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered, either as an individual, or via the team functionality. This includes youth. If a project requires an adult to be present, youth MUST register as a part of a team. To learn more about our Team Functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
