Volunteer Development Professional (Consultant)

About Sylvia’s Sisters:
Sylvia’s Sisters is a Central Virginia-based non-profit organization committed to combating period poverty by providing quality menstrual products to those in need. Since becoming a 501(c)(3) a decade ago, we have distributed over 1.1 million period products locally and globally. Our mission is to ensure that all menstruators have access to the essential products they need to thrive in school, at work, and in their communities.

Position Overview:
Sylvia’s Sisters is seeking a passionate and experienced Development Professional to lead our fundraising efforts. This individual will provide strategic development consulting services to support the growth of the organization’s financial resources, ensuring we can continue to expand our reach and impact. They will work closely with our staff grant writer and executive director. The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, and development strategy, and will be comfortable working in a remote, part-time capacity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support Sylvia’s Sisters’ programs and initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and grant-making organizations.
  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities to secure funding (we have a staff grant writer).
  • Create and implement donor engagement and recognition strategies to retain and grow the donor base.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to set fundraising goals, track progress, and adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Provide guidance on fundraising campaigns, special events, and potential partnership opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing reports for funders and stakeholders regarding the impact of their contributions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, and donor relations.
  • Strong track record of securing grants, sponsorships, and individual donations.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and networking skills.
  • Experience in crafting compelling grant proposals and donor communications.
  • Ability to work independently and develop strategic fundraising plans.
  • Passion for social impact and understanding of issues surrounding period poverty, women’s health, or related fields is a plus.
  • Familiarity with donor management systems and grant application platforms is a plus.

Time Commitment:
This is a remote consulting position requiring an estimated 12-15 hours per month. Flexible scheduling is available, but the ability to meet deadlines and goals is crucial.

Compensation:
This is a volunteer consulting role. Sylvia’s Sisters is growing, and there is potential for this role to expand into a paid position with increased fundraising success.
