Native Planting at Varina LandLab Conservation Area
Brief Organizational Description:
Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC) is dedicated to conserving the natural and historic resources of Virginia’s Richmond region for the benefit of people and nature.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
In celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 28, CRLC is hosting a volulnteer project from 9:00am to 11:00am to plant native plants that were grown from seeds sustainably collected from the organization's 353-acre Varina LandLab Conservation Area. Funding for this project is supported by revenues from the sale of Friend of the Chesapeake Bay license plates through the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund.
Rain Date: Sunday, September 29; 9:00am - 11:00am
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
- Volunteers should be comfortable bending, digging, kneeling, and standing for a period of time.
- Experience planting is not required; training will be provided.
- Waiver will be sent after sign-up.
Time Commitment:
9:00am - 11:00am; 2 hour volunteer project
Other Information (if applicable):
- Closed-toed shoes/boots are recommended as well as long pants. Sun protection, bug spray, and water are also recommended.
- The Varina LandLab Conservation Area is open parkland with no restroom facilities, but restrooms are located a very short drive (1-2 minute) at the nearby Henrico County Deep Bottom Park.
- The Varina LandLab features 3 trailheads along Deep Bottom Road. Volunteers are asked to meet at Entrance #3 at 9200 Deep Bottom Rd, Richmond, VA 23231. Parking is available at the small lot at the trailhead or along the road.
