DIY Pencil Box Kits for the Caring Closet
Brief Organizational Description:
The Caring Closet ("CC") provides FREE, high quality clothing and care bags to local children and their families who are experiencing challenging circumstances. The care bags along with pencil boxes and other seasonal bags are provided through the CC's Bags 4 Kids ("BFK") Program.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Each year the CC through it's BFK program has a Pencil Box Project that provides pencil boxes containing new school supplies to schools and agencies helping kids in need. The feedback has been amazing as we are told that the kids LOVE having their own, new school supplies. One teacher shared with us that, "the kids' desks may be a mess but their pencil boxes are kept neat and orderly." The kids take a lot of pride in their pencil boxes. The encouraging note taped to the inside of each pencil box offers ongoing inspiration each time the pencil box is opened.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
We are looking for volunteers to help us shop for and assemble pencil boxes. This includes the school supplies for each box. A list of items needed will be provided. Volunteers are also asked to create a note card with an encouraging message for each pencil box. You are welcome to create one kit or multiple kits. We estimate the cost per kit to be around $10-$12. This project provides 3 Service Hours per person not per kit. Thank you for spreading hope to children in our area. Please ask about other service projects if you are in need of additional service hours.
