Thinking Big 2025: Manufacturing in Healthcare

Description and Purpose:

Thinking Big with Big Data: Manufacturing in Healthcare is a half-day, in-person event for high school students. This unique opportunity allows students to dive into the realm of technology and interactive learning outside of the classroom. This transformative experience will provide students with hands-on activities and workshops led by professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries. The event is designed to establish a pipeline of young talent prepared for future careers with leading organizations. 

We are anticipating hosting approximately 400 students for this event. 

 

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

Layout Setup [Time Commitment ~ 3 hours]: October 5, 2025 *Day before event* (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) 

You will assist with setting up the event space by placing tables and chairs according to a specified layout. This may include arranging seating for presentations, breakout sessions, or meals. 

Total: 20 

 

Set-Up [Time Commitment ~ 4 hours]: October 5, 2025 *Day before event* (12:00 PM - 5:00 PM)  

Assignments include setting up the registration area, main event area, workshop area, print materials, equipment, etc. Afternoon shift only. 

Total: 20 

 

Registration / Information [Time Commitment ~ 6 hours]: October 6, 2025 (8:00 AM -2:00 PM) 

Arrive early to assist with setting up the registration table. Check in students, volunteers, the speaker, sponsors, and teachers during the morning of the event. Serve as a friendly point of contact for guests, answering questions, providing directions, and assisting with check-in or material distribution. All day shift. 

Total: 8 

 

Transportation [Time Commitment ~ 4.5 hours]: October 6, 2025 (8:30 AM -2:00 PM) 
Assist with coordinating and managing the flow of participants and guests as they arrive and depart. Help ensure everyone boards transportation safely and on time. You may guide groups to buses or vans, confirm headcounts, and communicate with drivers as needed. 

Total: 8 

 

Group Leader [Time Commitment ~ 5.5 hours]: October 6, 2025 (8:30 AM -2:00 PM) 

Assigned to a group of students for the day. Responsible for making sure students stay on track and attend their workshop sessions. All day shift. 

Total: 36

 

Floaters [Time Commitment ~ 5.5 hours]: October 6, 2025 (8:30 AM -2:00 PM) 

Provide flexible support throughout the event wherever help is needed. Tasks may include guiding guests to their designated areas, helping with room transitions, distributing materials, helping with lunch distribution, and stepping in to support other volunteers or staff.  

Total: 5 

 

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

STEM Professionals are encouraged to volunteer to be a Workshop Mentor but the event is open to anyone willing to volunteer!
