VisArts 11th Annual Chili Throwdown - Friday, October 3rd, 2025
The Visual Arts Center of Richmond’s 11th Annual Chili Throwdown is Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with a member only preview starting at 5:30pm. Participating restaurants contribute their best chili, which is taste-tested by both guest judges and event attendees. After guests have voted, they are welcome to go back for a full bowl of their favorite chili.
The event takes place in our outdoor courtyard and back parking lot. Tickets are $30 for VisArts members and $35 for the public. Youth under age 12 eat for $5, and kids under 3 eat free. Adult admission includes a handmade ceramic bowl—made by a VisArts clay artist! —and a drink ticket. Additional ceramic bowls are available for purchase.
At the end of the evening, VisArts presents two restaurants with awards: Critics' Choice, selected by the judges, and People's Choice, selected by the guests!
Event parking is available at Dogwood Middle School.
This event encompasses a variety of roles and time shifts that allow people of many abilities and backgrounds to participate!
VisArts is looking to fill the following roles: Set-Up, Bartending, Bowl Patrol, Bowl Packaging + Check In, Chili Tasting Stations, Floating Clean Up, Gallery Attendant, Head Count/Clicker/Welcome, Raffle Ticket Sales, Security, Ticket Sales, and Event Break Down Volunteers.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
All volunteers will receive training from VisArts staff!
Time Commitment:
The earliest commitment begins 1pm - 5pm, with all other roles being 4pm - 9:00/9:30pm.
Other Information (if applicable):
- The onsite Volunteer Manager will verify volunteer hours.
- All volunteers will receive training from VisArts staff on event day.
- Please wear attire that allows comfort in movement and heat, preferably dark colors with no offensive slogans.
- Volunteers are asked to utilize the Dogwood Middle School parking lot if they arrive for the 4pm shifts, earlier arrival volunteers are encouraged to use street parking.
- VisArts is incredibly appreciative of the time our volunteers choose to spend with us, and we are hopeful that each volunteer will bring an eagerness to learn, a cheerful outlook and a patient smile!
