Richmond Tree Week - Byrd Park Tree Planting w/ Capital Trees
Byrd Park Tree Planting
Saturday November 1st
9am-12pm
Help us kick off Richmond Tree Week with a
Community Tree Planting
at Byrd Park
Capital Trees is a local nonprofit working to transform Richmond’s public landscapes into thriving, sustainable greenspaces that restore nature and strengthen community. With the help of volunteers, partners, and neighbors, we nurture vital habitats that clean air and water, welcome wildlife, and create space for health and connection. So we invite you to step off the pavement, get your hands in the dirt, and be part of planting a greener, healthier city!
Trees improve our environment, our health, and our communities. Trees clean the air and water, reduce extreme temperatures, and create more connected communities. They filter stormwater, provide habitats for pollinators and other wildlife, and improve our physical and mental health. They mitigate the effects of heat islands and heat-related illnesses; in fact, they can reduce temperatures by up to 17 degrees in an urban area! Enhancing Richmond’s tree canopy coverage is a step toward a healthier, happier, and more equitable community.
Volunteer Duties
Volunteers will help plant 50 trees at Byrd Park, increasing tree canopy and enhancing biodiversity in the park. Capital Trees and Richmond Parks and Rec leaders will assist volunteers with removing burlap casings, placing trees, and filling in mulch rings. This is a great chance to learn best practices for your own home!
