Fonticello Park Native Meadow Planting & Mulching
The Friends of Fonticello Park and their partners Future Habitats need your help mulching and planting native plants in the park.
This project was funded by a Virginia Outdoors Foundation grant and installed in partnership with the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities with support from LERN (Local Ecotype Richmond Natives) and environmental studies students from Varina High School. Together, we are increasing pollinator habitat, providing food for birds and small mammals, and improving stormwater infiltration in this historic park.
Managing weed pressure and mulching is important during the establishment phase of these meadows, so come get your hands in the soil and help these plants succeed!
All tools and gloves will be provided. Please dress in comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Bring bug spray and plenty of water.
Street parking is available along Perry Street. The park entrance is located at Perry and W 28th Streets. Meet by the teardrop garden bed, indicated in the map below.
