Richmond Tree Week: Amelia Street Urban Forest Stewardship
Join us during our Open House event on Friday, November 7th from 12:30-3:30pm for guided tours and a preview of upcoming construction projects set to begin in January 2026. You’ll also have the chance to learn about ongoing maintenance efforts in the garden and tree beds, take part in seed collecting, help with transplanting or potting native plants, and enjoy a hands-on nature art activity.

What to wear: For maintainence activities, gardening gloves, sun protection and comfy, weather-appropriate clothing you don’t mind getting a little dirt is recommended.
Where to park: Ample street parking is available on the roads surrounding the Amelia Street School.
Time commitment: 11/7/2025, 12:30-3:30pm ET, drop-ins encouraged!
Experience: Everyone is welcome — no experience required!
About the Organizations
Friends of Amelia Street Urban Forest: Friends of Amelia Street Urban Forest is a grassroots group of neighbors and environmental advocates working to restore and reimagine a green space that sits directly on the campus of Amelia Street School. Through partnerships with VCU Sustainability, The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Richmond Master Gardeners, and generous local volunteers, our vision is to create and steward a vibrant, inclusive space that supports environmental education, fosters wellness, and strengthens neighborhood connections.
Richmond Tree Week: Reforest Richmond is a collaborative campaign to increase Richmond’s urban tree canopy to 60% by 2037 as mentioned in the Richmond 300 Master Plan. We are committed, not only to increasing citywide tree canopy, but also to dismantling systemic racism and environmental injustice through an evolving, equity-centered, community-driven effort.
