International Day of Forests 2026 at Ernest Rd. Park
Brief Organizational Description:
Southside ReLeaf is a community-based organization committed to environmental justice in South Richmond. Our goal is to improve the life expectancy and quality of life for Southside residents by increasing green spaces, reducing pollution and improving infrastructure.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
You are invited to visit, walk through, learn and ask questions about the importance of forests for International Day of Forests.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Walk and enjoy being under the canopy on the second day of Spring. Learn about the benefits of forests globally, work being done for their protection, and the environmental purpose of the work that has been done at the event site.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Please be prepared for walking into an urban forest with uneven terrain, sitting for up to 45 minutes, and exploring the space.
Time Commitment:
March 21, 2026 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM (90 minutes)
Other Information (if applicable):
- Please dress appropriately for the day's weather, keeping in mind the cooling effects of being under the canopy. Shoes should be comfortable to navigate uneven [and potentially, muddy or slippery] terrain.
- Attendance will be verified via CFEngage.
- You may park anywhere in the neighborhood vicinity. Please DO NOT block mailboxes. The park entrance is the area with a No Parking sign next to 2913 Ernest Rd.
- Please bring a reusable water bottle and a writing utensil. Seating will be provided. Feel free to bring a blanket if you prefer to be on the forest floor.
- Guests include Richmond City's Urban Forester, Michael Webb and Ecologist, John Williams.
- Snacks will be provided.
- Spanish and ASL translation available.
