MLK Day of Service: Cap Trail Clean-Up
Brief Organizational Description:
The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation exists to protect, promote, and enhance the Virginia Capital Trail, and to engage communities around it. Our vision is to inspire vibrant, healthy communities through the use of a network of interconnected trails.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
With support from the Community Foundation of Greater Richmond, VCTF is hosting our first MLK Day of Service: Cap Trail Clean-Up on Monday, January 19th on the Virginia Capital Trail from 10am - 1pm. Volunteers will hit the Trail with trash grabbers, bags, and gloves to help ensure that the Trail stays clean and beautiful for all users. After the clean-up, we will enjoy refreshments and comaraderie.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be removing litter from the Virginia Capital Trail. They will be assigned a mile to cover, designated a starting location, and will meet there to walk the Trail and keep their eyes out for any unnatural objects, collecting and disposing of them appropriately.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No training or special skills needed to volunteer! We welcome folks of all ages and abilities.
Time Commitment:
The Cap Trail Clean-Up will occur from 10am - 1pm. Please come any time within this window to support us as we work together to keep the Trail clean.
Other Information (if applicable):
- Volunteers will be contacted by the VCTF to receive their specific parking and meet-up location
- All volunteers will be required to fill out a waiver upon arrival
- Since the clean-up is taking place in January - be sure to dress in warm layers, including hats, scarves, gloves, and multiple tops/jackets.
- VCTF will provide light refreshments. Be sure to bring water with you!
