Field Day at Elizabeth D Redd Elementary School

Brief Organizational Description

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Richmond is a nonprofit that surrounds students with a community of support, helping them stay in school and succeed. Working inside Richmond Public Schools, CIS connects students and families with essential resources, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities to remove barriers to success.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose

Volunteers are needed to support Field Day at Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary School on May 22, 2026. This event brings together students in grades K–5 for a day of outdoor games and movement. Volunteers play a key role in ensuring activities run smoothly and that students remain engaged, encouraged, and supported in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment throughout the day. 

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set Up-  Bringing field games from the auditorium out to each zoned section of the back field.
  • Game station facilitation- Monitor and facilitate game stations by reading instructions and leading students through activities; ensure an even distribution of engagement/play at each section and keep an eye on students for safety!

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements

  • Stand, walk or move around grassy uneven surfaces outdoors.
  • Prepare for all types of weather.
  • Positive and energetic attitude. 
  • Comfort working with school-aged children.
  • Spanish speaking/bilingual volunteers a bonus!

Time Commitment

Volunteers can commit to one or multiple sessions:

  • 7:30-8:30 AM Set Up  
  • 9:15-11:30 AM 3rd-5th grade game station facilitation
  • 12:15-2:30 PM K-2nd grade game station facilitation 

Other Information

  • Arrival: Upon arrival, report to the front office to sign in using a government-issued ID
  • Hour Verification: Attendance will be marked and hours verified on CF Engage following the event
  • Recommended attire: Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for outdoor activity
  • What to bring: SPF sunscreen, water bottle, small personal fan sunscreen or towel — it's an outdoor event and it may be warm!
  • Other: Access to bathrooms and water fountains provided.
  • Food: Volunteers will receive a meal (hotdog/hamburger, chips and a drink).
