5/5 Idealist Day - Litter Pickup at Ernest Road Park
This May, Southside ReLeaf is proud to participate in Idealist Days — a global movement that brings people together to take positive action in their communities through service, connection, and local impact.
As part of this effort, we’re uplifting Richmond Shines, a citywide volunteer initiative led by the Richmond ToolBank that supports neighborhood cleanups and beautification projects throughout the city.
Join us as we continue caring for the neighborhood surrounding the new park space behind Ernest Road. This volunteer opportunity focuses on litter cleanup to help create a cleaner, healthier environment for residents and visitors alike.
Brief Organizational Description:
Our mission is to improve health outcomes and the quality of life for Southside Richmond by building green spaces and advocating for people-centered policy.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Volunteers will help remove litter and debris along Ernest Road and nearby streets using provided tools, such as trash grabbers and bags. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit and enjoy a newly established, well-canopied green space in Southside Richmond.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be walking and using trash grabbers to collect roadside debris in bags.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No special skills are required to be successful in this project.
Time Commitment:
Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 10 - 11:30 a.m. (1.5 hours)

- Volunteers will be marked in the CFEngage system. If you need a signature to document attendance, please bring your form with you.
- Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Boots are recommended.
- Parking will be in a residential neighborhood on the street. The address you may look up to get you there is 2913 Ernest Rd. Parking anywhere nearby is sufficient. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle. You are welcome to bring your own gloves. Gloves will be provided.
- If you arrive late, please peruse the area and look for our group in the neighborhood performing litter cleanup. To access the park, you will see an area that has a No Parking sign. Walk back and then to the right, and you will find the park, and us, if we are in the park space.
