VCU Day of Service - Barton Heights and Shockoe Hill Cemeteries

VCU Day of Service – Historic Cemetery Cleanup

Join the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities, the Descendants Council of Greater Richmond, and VCU volunteers for a Day of Service dedicated to preserving two of Richmond's most historic cemeteries.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to serve at either the Barton Heights Cemeteries (est. 1815) or Shockoe Hill Cemetery, helping preserve these important historic landscapes by removing litter, clearing overgrowth and invasive vegetation, hauling brush, string-trimming, and uncovering long-hidden grave markers. Whether you're helping at Barton Heights or Shockoe Hill, your efforts directly support the ongoing preservation of Richmond's history and honor those laid to rest there.

No experience is necessary. Tools, gloves, safety guidance, and water will be provided.
