Hanover 9/11 Day of Service: Camp Maintenance
Organization Overview
Camp Hanover is a welcoming and inclusive camp and retreat center affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). In June and July, children and youth enjoy exploring God's creation through our day and overnight camps. The rest of the year, we host schools, youth groups, community organizations, and others in opportunities to connect with each other, learn about the environment, and more.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose
We invite volunteers to give back to their community in honor of 9/11 by volunteering with us. Help us give our buildings and grounds a freshening up after a busy summer camp season. We also have some indoor opportunities if that is more your style.
Volunteer Project Options
- Office Support - Stuff envelopes, cut postcards, etc
- Garden - Weed garden beds, plant fruit trees and bushes, place weed barrier, spread mulch (best for youth volunteers)
- Landscaping - Trim bushes and shrubs behind lodge
- Painting - Paint cabin interiors, lodge exterior (via ladder), and soccer goal posts (best for youth volunteers)
- Cleaning - Deep clean lodge floor, power wash greenhouse, power wash water storage tank and propane tanks (exteriors)
- Path Maintenance - Grade cabin pathway and refurbish/repair wheelchair-accessible path to lake

Time Commitment
A morning shift (9 AM to noon) and an afternoon shift (1 to 4:30 PM) are available. If you wish to volunteer, but are not available for the complete shift, just let us know.
Other Information
- You may wish to bring your own gardening gloves, work gloves, and gardening tools if you have them.

All volunteers that are not current Hanover County employees are required to complete the Hanover County Assumption of Risk form prior to participating in the day of service.
