VCU Fall Day of Service - Morning in the Garden
Brief Organizational Description:
We are a historic and active monastery committed to seeking justice and praying for the city of Richmond at-large. As a residential community supported by fellow laborers in ecumenical Christian fellowship, we offer a variety of opportunities for those seeking spiritual retreat and direction. Richmond Hill's garden, an oasis in the middle of the city, is just one facet of Richmond Hill by whom all are invited to connect with the rhythms of nature and the Spirit of God in the earth. Visitors can explore a blend of formal and wild spaces connected by footpaths through areas designed for inward reflection and solitude, along with places for community gatherings and expansive views beyond the walls and into our city.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
On this planned workday, you can anticipate joining in the work of preparing the garden for rest in the upcoming winter season.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
You may have the opportunity to define borders, gather falling leaves, divide and transplant spent perennials, and continue stewarding collaborative works in the discipline of espalier, stumperies, and rockeries. Other Tasks may include: cutting and pulling ivy and uprooting small trees, digging, raking, and collecting plant debris for compost or transport. Dress for the weather, bring a water bottle. Tools and gloves are provided.
