Opportunity Details
Invasive Removal in James River Park System
The Organization:
The James River Park System (JRPS) consists of approximately 745 acres of forested land in the city of Richmond along the James River. In accordance with standards of the JRPS Natural Resource Management Plan, staff and volunteers work year-round to remove invasive plants and create opportunity for native species to thrive.
The Event:
Join the JRPS Invasive Species Management team in removing invasive plants and contributing to native habitat and biodiversity!
The type of activity and intensity depends on the season, weather, terrain, and other factors. Projects may include using one's (gloved) hands to manually pull certain plants out of the soil, using hand pruners to cut small vines, or using loppers and handsaws to cut through large woody vines or shrubs. Staff will communicate details about each project to registered participants via email beforehand.
Work may include light, moderate, or heavy physical exertion.
In addition to the types of projects listed above, physical activities include hiking uneven terrain, bending, kneeling, and squatting.
Tools, work gloves, instructions, and supervision will be provided by JRPS staff.
