MLK Day of Service: Powhatan Hill Community Garden
Brief Organizational Description:
Richmond Grows Gardens (RGG) is an initiative of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities created by the City Council and the Mayor’s office in 2011 as a result of community input. RGG’s mission is to cultivate community in City spaces with plants to achieve food access and environmental resilience. In order to work toward our mission, RGG provides city-owned parcels for community-leg agriculture and horticulture projects as well as programming support in order to cultivate green spaces for growing food, community, and environmental resilience.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
- filling garden beds with soil
- weeding
- mulching
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Participants will be required to bend, squat, lift, and stand.
We will be using shovels, wheelbarrow, hand cultivators
Time Commitment:
11am -1pm
Other Information (if applicable)
- Closed-toe shoes
- Personal water bottles
- Weather appropriate clothing
- Tools and gloves will be provided by volunteer leads
Age Minimum (with Adult): 6+, Minimum Age:15+, Court Ordered Volunteer - Allowed
