Pony Pasture invasive plant removal
Celebrate fall by heading back into the James River Park System to remove invasive plant species and nurture healthy habitat!
This fall in Pony Pasture we will be focusing on removal of "midstory" or "understory" invasive shrubs in key areas of the park. Volunteers will use hand tools (small saws and pruning loppers) to cut down and remove the shrubs so that staff can treat the stumps.
No experience is necessary, only the willingness to listen, learn, and follow all guidance. Arriving on time is a must, as is dressing for the work (see below). Work gloves and tools are provided.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Bottle of water
- Snack if you need it
- Work gloves if you prefer to use your own (they will be provided)
WHAT TO WEAR :
- Long pants that cover ankles
- Long sleeve shirt
- Sturdy closed-toe boots or shoes that you do not mind getting dirty
What NOT to bring:
- headphones or ear buds (paying attention, being able to hear, and tuning in to your task and your surroundings are essential for everyone's safety and for accomplishing our work).

Pony Pasture Park 7200 Riverside Drive, Richmond 23225
East end of the parking lot close to the grassy area with picnic tables. When you enter the park turn to the right. Look for a small red pick-up truck or a parks/city pick up truck.
