Opportunity Details
Bamboo Removal at Northbank Ramp
Brief Organizational Description:
The James River Park System consists of approximately 600 acres of forested land in the city of Richmond along the James River. Staff and volunteers work year-round to remove invasive plants and create opportunity for native species to thrive.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Join the Invasive Species Management (ISM) team as we tackle the dreaded grove of golden bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea) along the Northbank Trail next to Maymont Park. We will be taking advantage of a planned trail reroute near the ramp to finally clear out one of the park's only stands of bamboo.
Leaders and volunteers will meet at 9am at the listed meeting location on Saturday, April 11. We will primarily be using handsaws to cut through the bamboo stalks, though loppers may also be necessary.
Tools, work gloves, and other instruction will be provided by staff on site.
