Pony Pasture Invasive Plant Removal
The Organization:
The James River Park System consists of approximately 600 acres of forested land in the city of Richmond along the James River. Staff and volunteers work year-round to remove invasive plants and create opportunity for native species to thrive.
The Event:
Join the James River Park System’s Invasive Species Management team in removing invasive plants and contributing to native habitat and biodiversity!
Leaders and volunteers will use hand pruners, loppers, and/or non-electric handsaws to free trees of invasive vines. Depending on weather and other factors, we may occasionally pivot to hand-removal of invasive ground cover or removing shrubs.
Tools, work gloves, and instructions will be provided by JRPS staff.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
*Register to participate and receive updates about event.
*Arrive by the start time (10am). Stay until the end of event (12pm).
*Wear long sleeves, long pants, socks and sturdy closed-toe shoes.
*Bring drinking water.
*Participants must be over the age of 16 years old. Return a completed Youth Waiver Form if under 18 years old:

*In addition to the event description (above), physical activities also include walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting. With questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the event coordinator prior to event.
*Experience isn’t necessary (But learning is!)
Hazards include but are not limited to: poison ivy, thorns, stinging insects, uneven terrain and weather conditions. Please prepare accordingly.
Location:
The work site for this event will be at Pony Pasture park. Specific location and directions will be shared via email with registered participants.
